Celebrating African Women in Aviation – Kasiva Cindy from Kenya

“It takes a dream to get started, desire to keep going and determination to finish.”

Kasiva Cindy – Kenya

Growing up, I had two female cousins working in the industry (pilots). Seeing them in uniform and portraying such a high level of professionalism inspired me. Also, being a person that loves being out and about, there was no way I could see myself working a desk 9-5 job 😄

My training was longer than I initially expected due to financial constraints here and there. However, I still have a very strong support system behind me. When they say it takes a community to raise a child, that was the exact case here. Also, my flight school had very qualified and dedicated instructors who made the entire training experience unforgettable. The lovely ladies and gents of the WAI Kenyan chapter have helped keep me motivated together with my amazing mentor from the flygirlsmentorship program.

Currently, I am a ground instructor at Kenya School of Flying and a freelance pilot on the Cessna Caravan. So far, the aircraft I enjoy flying the most is the Cessna Caravan.

The ‘wild dream constantly drives me’ which I had as a young girl, and the desire to prove to those who told me it couldn’t be done that all things are possible as long as you keep your focus and believe in yourself. I would also like to be a source of hope to other girls who can achieve anything they put their minds to.

I’d encourage everyone to follow their dreams. It may never make total sense to those around you; however, what makes you happy, do that. It may not be easy some days, but those tough days will mold you and make you better at what you do.
